Obituary of Gilberte ‘Bette’ Grison

Please share a memory of Gilberte to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Peacefully, surrounded by family at her residence on Sunday March 1, 2015, Gilberte ‘Bette’ Grison, age 84, of Chatham, beloved wife of the late Philip Grison (February 15, 2015). Born in Pain Court in 1930, daughter of the late Antoinette Perron and Leon Charlebois. Gilberte, known to many as ‘Bette’, lived with illness for many years. For most of those years that illness did not rule her; it simply became a condition of her life and she dealt with it when necessary. It wasn’t until late 2013 that she decided to forego further treatment and let cancer run its course. Even then, she carried on like the ‘Energizer Bunny’; she just kept going and going. Born into a large, social family, Bette ran a household that often hosted family and friends of all generations. She instilled strong family values in her children and grandchildren and loved playing the role of ‘favorite aunt’ to many. Her home remained busy with visitor’s right through her last days. She, like her husband Phil, was a faithful and constant member of St. Agnes Church, participating in the choir and the Catholic Women’s League. Bette often said, “You can’t keep a good Frenchman down.” This was so true of her. May her spirit rise and watch over us. Loving mother of Gisèle Bourdeau, Greg Grison (Kathleen LePatourel), Guy (Wanda) Grison, and Denise Grison. Grandmother of Aisha, Kamal, Danielle and Claire. Dear sister of Jean d’Arc (Maurice) Dozois and Simonne (Andy) O’Neil. Predeceased by 3 brothers Yvon, Bernard and Jean-Maurice. Friends and relatives may visit at the Funeral Home, 156 William St. S. Chatham (519-352-5120) on Thursday March 5, 2015 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm, where Vigil Prayers will be offered at 3 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday March 6, 2015 at 11:00 AM in St. Agnes’ Church. Cremation will follow. Donations to Chatham-Kent Hospice would be appreciated.
