It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Claudio peacefully at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Thursday April 22, 2021. Claudio Bertocchi, age 85, of Chatham, beloved husband of the late Maria (Delise) Bertocchi (2008). Born in Capodistria (Koper), Italy on May 23, 1935. Son of the late Milka (Zidaric) and Augustin Bertok. Loving father of John Bertocchi. Dearest Nonno of Lorenzo (Paulina) Bertocchi and Venessa Bertocchi. Bisnonno of Aria and Sofia Bertocchi. Predeceased of his brothers and sisters Lucano, Clelia, Mario, and Doro Bertocchi in Italy.
Claudio started mastering the craft of painting in Italy and brought his expertise over to Canada when he and his wife immigrated in 1959. Together they settled in Chatham-Kent, and started a successful trade business. Claudio also was a member of the Italian Canadian Social Club Board for a number of decades helping with Italian gatherings throughout the years. One of his favourite things to do was entertain family and friends with his wife Maria cooking wild game he had just brought home. Being an avid hunter brought Claudio to many destinations with his friends and family who he admired dearly while always looking forward to the next adventure. He will be remembered most for his frequent visits to everyone's home always making sure everyone and their family was safe and keeping busy. His fatherly presence left a great impact on everyone he came into contact with over his 85 years. We were all very lucky to experience life with Claudio around, his encouraging and positive attitude to ‘keep going’ will bless us for years to come.
We would like to thank everyone who has reached out over the last few weeks with all of their love and support. A celebration of life to be held at a later date due to the pandemic. To respect Claudio’s wishes cremation has taken place. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date in St. Anthony’s Cemetery where he will rest with his loving wife Maria.
