Obituary of Joseph Korpan
Born January 26, 1931 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Joseph Korpan passed peacefully at Chatham-Kent Hospice on December 30, 2024. Predeceased by parents Marta Yurkiw and Stefan Korpan, son Michael and first wife Ann (Steen), and brothers William, Nick and Jim.
Survived by wife Mary Teresa (Dejonghe), son Joseph Jr and Patricia (Wells), Keith and Susan (Balsdon), and daughter-in-law Susan (Meko), 7 Grandchildren: Matt and Kate Korpan, Leanne and Brad Hessel, Cameron and Rebekah Korpan, Nathan Korpan and Elisa Bade, Becky Korpan and Bryan Hunter, Kristen and Sean Dobbelaer, Bryce and Kayla Korpan, and 16 Great Grandchildren: Wesley and Marta Korpan, Eden and Lucas Hessel, Elizabeth, Clayton, Theodore and Amelia Korpan, Liam and Ivy Korpan, Mikayla and Kadence Hunter, Boone and Suthryn Dobbelaer, Tenley and Arlyn Korpan. Also sadly missed by sisters Rosemary Ternoey and Katharine Smyth.
Joe was an avid farmer in Chatham Township all his adult life and enjoyed farming right up to harvest 2024. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, enjoyed playing euchre at the KofC hall, then CBD hall weekly for many winters. He loved going for coffee and chewing the fat with fellow farmers at Kent County Fertilizers in Eberts each morning when not in the field. In his younger years, he was an avid bowler and square dancer, and always loved watching hockey and taking all three boys to their hockey games.
Resting at the Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home, 156 William St.S. Chatham from 11 am until 1 pm Friday January 3, 2024.
A Chapel Service will then be conducted at 1 pm with Deacon Morgan Treacy officiating.
Interment will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
