With sadness in our hearts, we would like to share that Jaroslav “Jerry” Sacher passed peacefully at Riverview Gardens in Chatham on Thursday May 15, 2025 at the age of 100. Born in Czechoslovakia in 1925, son of the late Ruzena (Hakova) and Jaroslav Sacher. Beloved husband of the late Frances (Nedved) Sacher (2015). Loving father of Jana (John) Korol and Helena (Scott) Inglis. Cherished grandfather of Julie (Doug), Christine (Grant), Audrey (Jordan), Ellen (Ben), Natalie (Adam) and Tommy. Dearest great grandfather of Carter, Paige, Sophie, Elliott, Jack, Hugo and Frances. Predeceased by his sister Helena Flekacova and brother Ladislav in Czech Republic.
Jerry’s teaching career spanned over 4 decades, teaching both children and adults in Czechoslovakia (the Czech, German, French, Russian and English languages, and history), and after his courageous escape with his family from communism to Canada, where he continued teaching languages (German at Fanshawe College, and French at catholic schools in Hamilton and in Chatham/Kent) until his retirement. His love of music spilled into his teaching lessons (playing the violin when teaching French songs to his students), playing the piano and his harmonicas, and also as a member of the Senior Choir of St. Ursula Church for many years. He loved travelling with his beloved Frances to many parts of the world, enjoying different cultures and their people. But he was at his happiest when he was with his family – entertaining his grandchildren, singing, and having fun with them.
Friends and relatives may visit at the Hinnegan Peseski Funeral Home Ltd., 156 William St. S. Chatham from 6-8 PM on Thursday May 22, 2025. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday May 23, 2025 at 11 AM in St. Ursula's Church. Burial will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
