Obituary of Antonio Todino
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Antonio Todino in his 91st
year, on May 21, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Especially his best friend
and wife of 58 years Ida Todino (nee Gambale).
He was the loving son of Maria Grazia Moccia and Giuseppe Todino of
Tremauriello, AV (Castelvetere Sul Calore) Italy. Nostro padre, our father, was born
on June 12, 1934. Predeceased by his parents and brothers Raffaele and Vittorio
Todino. His uncle and aunt, Archangelo and Filomena Moccia.
He was the proud and loving father of Marilena Naclerio (Enrico), Giuseppina
Tucker (Mark), and Americo Todino (Lisa). Loving Nonno (Grandfather) to Amelia
(Michael), Rosa (Timothy), Erica (Phillip), Alessandra (Corey) Naclerio and Gabriela,
Michael Anthony, Olivia and Zachary Todino. Great grandfather to Ariella. All of
whom he loved so dearly. Dear cousin to Gennaro (Enza) Moccia.
Antonio came to Canada with his brother Raffaele in 1965 to visit his brother
Vittorio, but in the end gave up a coveted government position with Alto Calore
(Water Commission) at the Vallo di Lauro. He chose family. Shortly after, he asked
his then girlfriend, Ida, to join him in a new life in Canada. She took a leap of faith
and joined him, beginning their new life and family together.
Dad had studied hard in Italy as he had a love for books. He came over speaking
English which was advantageous to him and his fellow Italian friends.
He was fortunate to work at Motor Wheel as a crane operator forging many new
friendships. He also invested in real estate and loved small building projects.
He had always loved politics as he was chauffeur, Political organizer and great
friend to Italian MP Ugo Sullo. In Canada he continued to follow politics and led
local petitions of action. He and our mom both had a passion for gardening and
loved sharing their fresh vegetables with friends and neighbours.
But more than anything our dad was a dedicated family man and husband.
Teaching us many Italian traditions, playing Italian card games, taking us to the
beach on Sundays and telling us so, so many stories. He had a photographic
memory and could recite poems, fables and stories he had learned in his lifetime.
His stories always had a purpose too; to make us laugh, think deeper, and make
the right choices. He also told us stories of his life and the life of our ancestors...
we appreciate them now more than ever.
Lastly, our dad was a man of faith who along with our mother taught us to pray
and took us to church every Sunday. Our amazing trips to Italy always included
special visits to sanctuaries. St. Anthony of Padova and La Madonna delle Grazie
were always on his mind and in his heart.
Our family would like to take this opportunity to thank our amazing health
community: Dr. Jason Denys, March of Dimes, Carepartners and CKHA dedicated
nurses and doctors who always made a positive difference for our father.
