Jack & I shared many adventures over the years travelling to Killarney, flying often with him in his Cesna, once while participating in a piloting contest of sorts, during which he practiced stalls over the Luther Marsh.
We met at Fram in the late 70s and teamed up when the company decided to back Lee Iacocca in the K Car development, which was a big risk at the time. Fuel economy was a paramount objective therefore conversion to plastics from metal components was demanded.
Jack was integral in the development of plastic air cleaner assembly components, as the computer systems guy, I was assigned to work with the engineering departments in a support role.
As part of this project, Jack & I would go to Bendix Southfield to model components on their supercomputer ( the only other computer of that size was at NRC labs in Ottawa). In those days CADD was wireframe not solid modelling which today can run on your mother's laptop.
We decided to move my Mirage 27 sailboat from Tilbury to Kingsville so that we could detour on the way to Chatham, Back then we all dressed like Penguins {AKA 3 piece suits} so when we arrived at the boat with a few pops , we stripped down to our skivvies and would go for for a sail.
We became very close during those years and have maintained this friendship ever since. Even as we were separated by distance, we stayed in touch.
I will dearly miss Jack.
My sincere condolences to Marg, Charlyn and Jason May his memory be a blessing,
Bob
