Obituary of John "Jack" William Idler
Peacefully, on Monday July 14, 2025, John “Jack” William Idler, age 88 in Windsor, Ontario. Born in Vancouver, BC in 1937, the only child of the late Fay and Bill Idler. (Fanny Beatrice Miller and William George Idler). Married to the late Elyse Violet Hrynkiw for a time, Jack is survived by daughter, Charlyn May Idler and son, John Jason Ross Idler.
Jack obtained his private pilot’s license in 1954 in British Columbia and his commercial pilot’s license in 1987 in Ontario. A Professional Engineer and University of British Columbia Metallurgical Engineering alum, Jack moved to Ontario in 1960, to work at Inco in Sudbury. He held many different engineering and management positions over the years, including at Ford and Chrysler in Windsor, at Canadian Fram in Chatham, and at Waltec Industries in Wallaceburg. The family home in Riverside was built by Jack, with help from friends and skilled tradesmen in the early 1970’s. It harkened back to a favourite time in his family’s seaside cabin on the north shore of Burrard Inlet.
Jack will be missed by family and friends for his humour and intelligence. He lived in the village of Killarney, Ontario for many years and his fond thoughts were often there recently.
Visitation will take place on Saturday July 19th from 1-3 PM at the Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home 156 William Street South Chatham. Following the Visitation cremation will take place. Donations to the Windsor Regional Hospital or the Killarney Ontario Health Centre are appreciated.
