I just read of the passing of Mary. Oh my, what wonderful memories of her and the whole Badura family. The beautiful occasions at St, Anthonys and their visit to our farm to visit Mom and Dad, Pete and Angela. They were such good friends and Charlie
came from Moms early home near Taber and they knew each other for a long time. Our condolences to a beautiful
family. God Bless. Patsy (Svehla) and Rolland Sterling

Dear Badura family,
We are sad to hear of the passing of your mom & grandma . She has made the journey to her heavenly home to be with her beloved husband Charlie, & her Mojzis families & Badura families.
She was proud of her Czech heritage which originated in her families inCzechoslovakia. She did enjoy the Czech music & traditional foods.
I recall visits at her home on the farm, where she made her famous Alberta tea & delicious baked goods to offer
while we visited. I also recall her lovely handwriting whenever she sent us cards.
May family memories of dear Aunt Mary, now with Uncle Charlie, bring comfort $ peace.
Love & prayers,

My condolences to the Badura family.
My memories of Mary go back to September, 1943. She was one of a. group of five year olds who started grade one together. We were all frightened little kids that first day. There was Mary Mojcis, Lillian Motycka , Ruth Ann Bolton, Joanne Martin, Patsy Smith, Martha Vellinga, Doris Jackson, annd myself Shirley Richardson, and one boy, Clifford Jackson. That group stayed together, gr.1 through 8. These eight girls played together, always in the girl’s side of the SS#2 Harwich school yard. We giggled and whispered and did all the things young girls did in the country schools of that day. We carried a black lunch pail and ate our lunch at our desks. Sometimes we would have a thermos with soup. There seemed to be an unwritten rule that we couldn’t share lunches.
Lillian and Mary had a special bond because in the summer they attended the Czech picnics and dances in Wilson’s bush on Sundays. I grew up on a farm across the road from that bush, and it is no wonder Mary loved the music. It was so wonderful to hear, but we were warned to stay on our own side of the road, because we didn’t know them, and even worse, they DANCED on SUNDAY.
I didn’t realize that this was such an important event for all the hard-working Czech families of the community until I was in nursing school with Helen Machacek and Bess Samson, and they told of how they looked forward to it. Czech young people met other Czech young people, and they learned the traditional Czech dances. It was particularly important for the women of the community, and especially the older women who didn’t have the same opportunities to learn and use English. They could visit in their native tongue and get caught up on all the news in their community. They all worked on the farm as well as all the responsibilities of a home, and it gave them the opportunity to have a few hours when they could talk to other women.
I didn’t see Mary often in the years after 1955, but when I did, we could have such a good visit. My last time was on a day when she was driving in to see her husband at Copper Terrace.
Your mom was a beautiful person, kind and caring. I have had a lifetime of wonderful memories of our early school days.
Good memories are God’s gift to us. You are blessed as a family.
Sincerely, Shirley (Richardson) Clark

Q: What will you never forget about Mary?
A: I’ll never forget what a kind and genuine and classy lady my Auntie Mary was. She dressed to the nines and was one of the most beautiful brides I’ve ever laid eyes on in photographs. A beautiful woman inside and out. I’ll always remember her playing our organ for us because Mom would insist and being so gracious, she’d play us beautiful music and liven up the house. Mary was a charming and elegant woman. She was a kind and caring woman who was so proud of her family and didn’t hesitate to properly brag about them. That’s what a good Mom does. She and my Uncle Charlie were so good together. Incredible tales of travel and boy how they loved a good road trip. From what I can remember, they would drive down to Florida and I couldn’t imagine two more compatible people together in doing so. And apparently they would drive from Chatham and head out west by car to Southern Alberta to visit with family quite often. We all were always looking forward to seeing them and enjoying a visit with them. Those are the best days of my childhood. Wonderful memories with family and their faces etched in my memory and their spirits engraved upon my heart.
Mary was devoted to her husband and family. A loving wife and Mother and someone who I will always remember as being kind and caring to everyone she met. Auntie Mary Badura. You will always be remembered and loved by your family and friends.

We, the Zadnik family offer our deepest sympathies on the passing of your beautiful Mom, Mary.
Mary will always be remembered as lighting up the room playing our organ and beautiful music filling our home. Mary’s spirit was indelible. She was one of the most articulate and kindest of people and was so good at telling a story. Charlie done good when he left Alberta to marry the love of his life in Ontario. Charlie and Mary Badura are a love story for the ages. The Zadnik family has wonderful memories of visiting them and their family and those memories are precious to us all.
May you all find comfort in the peace of Christ during this difficult time and know we mourn the passing of your Mother alongside you in spirit.
Sending our deepest condolences and love,
Helen Zadnik (Steve) and Family
