Obituary of Mary "Alma" Sternik

Mary Alma Sternik (Samis) passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, in Chatham, Ontario. She was born on November 17, 1928 in Toronto to Florence and Bruce Samis. She married George Sternik on October 11, 1956. 

She was the beloved mother and grandmother to many. Alma was an active member of her community, especially with the Basilian Lay Associates. She loved the arts and mysteries, bearing a reputation as a storyteller among those who knew her. 

Alma is survived by four of her children and their spouses: Gerard (Bernadette), Mary-Anne (Paul), Suzanne (Stephen) and Joanne (Michael); her grandchildren: River Alma Sternik, Michael and Ryan Dang, Sarah (Thomas), David, James, Christopher and Joseph Lozinski, Katey (Conner), Thomas, Mary, Theresa and Bridget Bondy; her great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Alma and William Greenway, Maria Alma Zucchi. 

She joins her husband George and son Stephen Bruce in eternal rest. 

Funeral services will be on Saturday, August 16 at 1:00 pm at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Chatham, Ontario. 

Interment will follow on the Monday, August 18 at 1:00 pm at Holy Cross Cemetery in Markham, Ontario. 

In lieu of flowers, Masses may be offered for the repose of her soul.
