Obituary of Alcide Maria Teixeira
It is with heavy hearts that at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, on Tuesday August 26, 2025, Alcide Maria Teixeira, at the age of 67 years passed away peacefully after a brave battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Urros-Moncorvo, Portugal in 1958, daughter of the late Palmira (Almeida) and Jose Neto. Beloved wife of Carlos Teixeira. Loving mother of Paul (Brittany) Teixeira and Cristina (Evan) Pettinelli. Cherished Grandma of Gianna, Maeva and Ellia. Dear sister of Joe (Kim) Neto.
Alcide came to Canada as a young child (the eldest of all of her cousins), and helped her cousins to assimilate to Canada as they arrived from Portugal. She met (and married) the love of her life, Carlos, whom she was lovingly married to for 46 happy years. They leaned on one another throughout the journey of life while raising two faithful children. Alcide embraced the time with her grandchildren by baking, storytelling, and simply being in their presence. She was looking forward to meeting her fourth granddaughter arriving in November.
Alcide was raised on a farm in Ridgetown where she learned the value of hard work and long hours in the fields. Later in life she enjoyed a 39 year career at Chatham Kent Secondary School where colleagues turned into lifelong friendships.
Alcide held an unwavering faith and a very special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and to the Eucharist. She attributed the good times to her faith, which carried her through times of hardship as well. She will be missed dearly by so many, but will live forever in our hearts.
