Obituary of Maria Elvira DaCosta

Maria Elvira DaCosta passed away peacefully after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Thursday January 8, 2026 at the age of 74.

Predeceased by her husband David Valente DaCosta (2023). Beloved mother of Bradley (Sophia) DaCosta. Loving grandmother of Jonah and Luca.

 

Cherished sister of Palmira Gomes de Oliveira (Serafim) Bastos and Maria Isabel deOliviera (Justino) Fonseca.

 

Predeceased by her parents Joao de Oliviera (1965) and Rosa Amelia Gomes Soledade (2012). Her siblings Joao Gomes de Oliveira (2013), Maria do Carmo Gomes de Oliveira (Joao) da Silva (2025) and Fatima Gomes de Oliveira (Jorge) Pereira (2018).

 

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful PSWs, Debra and Brittany at Bayshore Home Health, to her dear friends Margaret and Joe Rheault and her loving sister Palmira Bastos for all their support.

 

Friends and relatives may visit at Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home, 156 William Street S. Chatham (519-352-5120) on Monday January 12, 2026 from 6-8 PM.A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday January 13, 2026 at 11 AM in St. Josephs Parish, 180 Wellington St. W. Chatham, followed by interment in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations to Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
