Obituary of David John Better
It is with profound sorrow that the family of David John Better of Chatham, Ontario, announce his passing on March 23, 2026, at the age of 63. David was born in Chatham on February 15, 1963, to the late John and Margaret (McDougall) Better of Thamesville, Ontario.
He will be lovingly remembered by his longtime companion, Tracy Pryor; his brothers, Ian (Ellie) Better of Brooks, Alberta; James (Pamela) Better of Red Deer, Alberta; Robert (Peggy) Better of Thamesville, Ontario and his sister, Linda Huff of Moraviantown, Ontario and Louann Better. David will also be sorely missed by several nieces and nephews in Ontario and Alberta, as well as Tracy’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. David was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Lynn Wilkins (2013) of Windsor, Ontario, and his brother-in-law and fishing buddy, the late Lance Huff (2019) of Moraviantown, Ontario. He will be deeply missed by his many friends, who knew him for his kindness and generosity.
He was well known and respected by friends and co-workers alike for his strong work ethic and dedication. Growing up outside Thamesville, David broke his back as a youngster after a fall from a tree. Despite this, he never lost his courage or determination. While the injury ended his hopes of joining the military and the RCMP, it did not prevent him from building a fulfilling career as a millwright, working across Ontario and Alberta. Much of his career saw him working at great heights, including atop some of Chatham-Kent’s tallest grain silos.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home, and a gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.
Donations in David’s memory may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion.
