Obituary of Janice Elizabeth DaCosta
Peacefully passed away at home in Chatham on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, Janice Elizabeth DaCosta, age 74. Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia in 1951, daughter of the late Ada and Blake Daly. Beloved wife of Anibal DaCosta. Loving mother of Matthew (Christine) DaCosta and GrammaD to Viola and Oliver. Dear sister of Dawn (Bill) Warren, Dennis (Mary) and Nelson (Betty) Daly and predeceased by siblings, Vaughn (Theresa) and Beryl (Buck). Forever missed by many nieces and nephews.
A little about the one and only Janice DaCosta: Also known as “MamaD” to the greater Chatham area. In her early years, she studied nursing at CK and made many memories while working at Public General Hospital, and building lifetime friendships with her many beloved friends who became her second family. She met her husband at the old Aberdeen and they danced their way into 49 years of marriage.
As time went on, though her health wasn’t the best, Janice remained a fierce lady who struck fear into her son’s friends - from kids to family men - yet they were always there to complete a home reno or drop in for a friendly “Hello.” Her heart was full of love for all her family, but especially for her grandbabies. She watched them play at the park, gave them prestigious rides on her walker, and loved taking them for ice cream adventures. Together, the room was always filled with love and laughter.
Lastly, Janice loved a silly joke.
Here’s one last laugh, Mom:
