Obituary of Carol Ann June Burroughs

At Meadow Park Nursing Home, Chatham, on Saturday, June 20, 2026, Carolyn “Carol” Ann June Burroughs, also affectionately known as “Mick,” passed away peacefully at the age of 81.

Born in Chatham in 1944, Carol was the beloved daughter of the late Marjorie and William Dick. She was the cherished wife of Robert “Bob” Burroughs, and the loving mother of Rose (Fran) O’Neill, Melinda Poissant, Shannon (Doug) Rake, and the late Lori Glover. She is lovingly remembered by her nine grandchildren: Carly, Katie (Kyle), Seth, Nick, Clark (Erica), Scott (Alisa), Zack, Paige, and Ian, and by her seven great-grandchildren. She was the dear sister of Al Dick, Bonnie (Pat) Babcock, and Margo (Richard) Broadbent. Carol was predeceased by her son-in-law Keith Poissant, her sister-in-law Ruth Dick, and her brother Michael Dick.

Carol worked at A&P for many years, where her friendly nature made her a familiar and welcome presence before her retirement.

Carol knew how to embrace life’s bright and beautiful moments, especially those spent in the sunshine, with family, or near the water. She loved summer days by the pond on her back patio, afternoons out on the boat, and any chance to relax in the sun. She also treasured special trips with family over the years, including cruises and time spent in Florida, Mexico, and British Columbia. Wherever she went, Carol found joy in her surroundings and carried a sense of curiosity and adventure with her.

Carol was well known for her creative eye, which showed in her lifelong love of fashion, artwork, and home décor. Shopping with her was always special, whether choosing everyday outfits, styling the perfect look, or finding dresses for proms, weddings, and other important occasions. Many turned to Carol for her trusted sense of style, from adding the perfect finishing touches to choosing the thoughtful details that made a house feel like a home. She shared her love of fashion generously, too. If anyone admired a piece from her closet or jewellery collection, she was always happy to offer it.

Carol’s home was the heart of the family, a gathering place for the people she loved. From thoughtfully planned parties and holiday celebrations to sleepovers with pizza, movies, and games, she added a little extra “fancy” and joy to every occasion. She loved following her family’s lives, accomplishments, and adventures, always eager to hear the latest news and celebrate milestones big or small. She was often behind the camera, capturing what she affectionately called “action shots,” candid, everyday moments that have become treasured keepsakes, each one bringing back silly stories and plenty of laughter.

Beyond the lively gatherings, Carol was a steady source of comfort and care. She showed up whenever people needed her, whether with a favourite meal, practical help, a listening ear, or quiet reassurance. She was someone her family could confide in, learn from, laugh with, and count on. Through her generosity, humour, and encouragement, she nurtured independence, strength, and possibility in the generations that followed her.

While her family deeply mourns her loss, they find comfort in a lifetime of beautiful memories: summers by the water, afternoons in the kitchen, evenings on the patio, and the love she shared with those closest to her. Carol will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Friends and relatives may visit at the Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home, 156 William St. S., Chatham, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026. A chapel service will follow at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Greg Simpson officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
