Obituary of Elizabeth "Beth" Ann White

Elizabeth Ann "Beth" White (née Smyth), born in Tilbury on December 14, 1934, to Joseph and Marjorie Smyth. Beth passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of love, family, kindness, and cherished memories.

Beth was predeceased by her husband, Roger "Bud" White, with whom she shared 67 years of marriage. Together they built a loving family that was the center of Beth's life and greatest source of her pride.

She will be deeply missed by her five children: Catherine Glendinning, Mary Beth (Joe) Rush, Brian (Laura) White, Mike White, and Tim White (Deb McMillan). She was a devoted grandmother to Jennifer Glendinning, Sara (Darryl) Hoekstra, Meredith (Jordan) Gobert, Lisa (Paul) Vilaranda, Renee White, Rachel White (George Cass), Paul (Danielle) White, Melissa (Liam) Thompson, Kaitlynn White (Esher Webster), Jillian White (Armando Lucarelli), Vanessa White (Ryan Edmondson), and Geoff McMillan. Beth was also blessed with twenty-one great-grandchildren: Kyran, Owen, Emma Hazel, Harper, Ethan, Averie, Adam, Claire, Logan, Elliot, Jack, Emma Sophia, Avalyn, Mya, Quentin, Louis, Benjamin, Alexys, Natalia, Sophia, and Zachary,each of whom brought her immense joy.

Beth was predeceased by her brothers Joe, Jim, and Dan Smyth. She is survived by her brother John (Carol) Smyth.

The only daughter and middle child in her family, Beth was raised in a Catholic household that helped shape her strong values, faith, and resilience. Before dedicating herself to raising her family, she worked as an operator for Bell Canada.

Some of Beth's memories were made during summers at the cottage in Erieau, where family gathered to boat and fish during the day and sit around the fire at night with hotdogs, popcorn, and a cold drink. Her home was always a welcoming place and family eagerly anticipated her famous dessert, Mississippi Mud.

Beth loved horses and enjoyed going to the barn to groom and feed peppermints to Maisy.  She played the piano and enjoyed all kinds of music.  She had a curious and active mind, was a Blue Jays fan, and an avid reader, sharing her lap and her love of books with her grandchildren.  She could debate politics for hours, was a formidable Trivia Pursuit competitor and a master of puzzles, crosswords and Sudoku, which she enjoyed until her final days. 

Beth will be remembered for her devotion to her family, quick wit, and the warmth she brought to those around her. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the traditions she created, and the countless lives she touched. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.

Friends and relatives may visit at the Hinnegan Peseski Funeral Home, 156 William St. S. Chatham from 9:30 am - 11:30 am on Tuesday June 30, 2026.  A Funeral Mass will take place at Blessed Sacrament Church on Tuesday June 30, 2026 at 12 noon. Private family interment will take place.
