Obituary of Mark Louis Scruton

Please share a memory of Mark to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Surrounded by his family, Mark Louis Scruton passed away at home on Friday, July 3, 2026. Born October 22, 1960, Mark was predeceased by his loving parents, Manse (1975) and Aline Desjardins (1985). Beloved brother of Jay (Deb Bellamy), Shea Ricica (Don), and Kim.

Predeceased by his sisters, Heather Caron (Alvin) 2012, Jean Lumsden (1950) and his brother, Jim Scruton (2004). Mark will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Mark had made many friends all over Chatham-Kent, including many from his years of work at Community Living. For anyone who knew Mark, your life was better because of it. He brought innocence to every moment and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was the knower of all things rock and roll, and a collector of vinyl records. His love for books, travel, and Canada (especially anything having to do with the PNE) were past times that sparked many conversations and laughs. If you needed a feel good moment, Mark made you feel better with his world famous banana joke. He was a creature of habit, and for many years you could find him walking to the library, and to the downtown Chatham Centre chewing Double Mint gum, to buy lottery tickets and Archie comic books, with a stop at the record store to keep up on the latest music releases. The past few years, you would find him at his favourite Saturday hangout, the Vinyl Room, where he could spend hours looking through the records. Politics were hot topics, and Mark was always in the know on the latest with local, Canadian, and world leaders as well as his favourite, pop culture. Mark loved apple pie with vanilla ice cream, cheesies, jujubes, KFC, and an icy cold pop. His family knows he is watching over them, enjoying all of his favourite things, listening to records with the biggest smile and a heart full of love. Thank you Mark for reminding us to enjoy the small things in life, to take in each moment, and stop and listen to the music. We love you Mark and will miss you dearly.

Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of life will take place.

Donations to the Chatham Kent Community Living or the Chatham Kent Public Library would be appreciated.
