Obituary of Mary Leyte

Peacefully at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Sydenham Campus, on Monday, August 24, 2026, Mary Leyte, age 96.  Born in St. John's, Newfoundland in 1929, daughter of the late Gertrude (Doody) and Michael Hannon and Stepmother Margaret Browne. 

Beloved wife of the late Arthur Leyte (2013).  Loving mother of Chris (Becky) Leyte, Bob (Kathy) Leyte, Margaret (Scott) McKenzie, Stephen (Michelle) Leyte, Jim (Janice) Leyte, Joanne Leyte and Greg (Johanne) Leyte. 

Also sadly missed by 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Dear sister of Gertrude Karapita and sister-in-law Meryl Hannon. She is predeceased by a son David (1962) and a brother Cyril Hannon and brother-in-law Alex Karapita. 

Private family visitation.

Friends and relatives are asked to gather for a Funeral Mass in St. Ursula’s Church on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 10 am. Interment of ashes will follow in Maple Leaf Mausoleum.
