Peacefully surrounded by family at Riverview Gardens on November 22 2016. Bernard “Roger” Lauzon of Chatham, beloved husband of Brenda (Dewe) Lauzon. Born in 1935, son of the late Marie Anne (Peltier) and Leopold Lauzon. Loving father of Randall (Shelley) Lauzon, Jacqueline (Derek Stone) Lauzon, Lisa (Michel) Michaud and Marc Lauzon. Cherished grandfather of Christopher Lauzon, Nicholas (Kim) Lauzon, Katie (Tim Diamond) Lauzon, Matthew (Maria)Tape, Jennifer (Mark) Tape -Samson, Elisha (Adam ) Dramnitzke , Joshua Michaud, Mary Ann Lauzon, Marc Lauzon Jr. Great grandfather of Brenda and Henry. Dear brother of Maurice (Sylvia) Lauzon. Also sadly missed by nieces and nephews; Suzanne (Lauzon) Acton, David Lauzon, Dave Lauzon and Jeannine Lauzon. Predeceased by brothers Edmond (2001) and Gerry (2015). At the age of 18, Roger left his home town in Pain Court Ontario to join the Canadian Army. He received his education while travelling the world in defense of his country for next 9 years. Roger was a paratrooper who served with the 56th Canadian Signals Corps in the Suez Canal Zone. He served as one of Canada’s Peacekeepers and received the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal in 2001. His service lead him across Canada and many places abroad. He was Part of an Elite “Red Beret” Group trained to work with any infantry in tandem with N.A.T.O., the Air Force or the Navy. After being released from the Army He furthered his studies at St. Clair College. He became a Licenced mechanic, plumber and electrician. A veritable “Jack of all Trades”. Through the years he worked for Canadian Marietta and also International Harvester (Both in the Plant and at the Dealership). He spent 10 years as a Mechanic for the City of Chatham during which he Plowed many snowy a street and was responsible for raising the Bridges to let the Sailboats come up the Thames River. [He did not have the chance to see the newly renovated Parry Bridge on Keil Drive, although he would have loved crossing it on his way to the “Thames Lea Mall”.] Roger was well known in the community he loved. He saw himself as a natural born leader with a great sense of humor who loved spending time with his family. He was very proud of their achievements and cherished them very much. Roger loved his Dogs, Woodworking, Fishing, Hunting, Electronics, Listening to Music, Genealogy. And let us not forget his Great Love of Shopping! Roger was a member of the Former Branch 628 Legion. Every Remembrance Day, He showed respect and reverence to the men and women who served before, along side and after him. He was part of the groups that toured the high schools speaking to the youth about his experiences. He was quoted in an article in 2002, “I take great pride in being a Veteran. It was something I had to do. It was part of my destiny.” This November 11th, even in illness, he observed the Ottawa Remembrance Day Celebrations on TV, wearing his Peace Keeping beret and Poppy Proudly with his wife Brenda by his side. A Special Thank you to Everyone who cared for him during his 6 year stay at Riverview Gardens in Chatham. Cremation has taken place. Friends and relative may visit at the Funeral Home, on Thursday December 1, 2016 from 10 am until 11 am. Chapel service will then be conducted at 11 am by Fr. William Capitano. Interment of ashes will be alongside his father Leopold in Pain Court. Donations to P.A.W.R. or the food bank would be appreciated by the family.
