Obituary of Robert "Bob" Hughes Sr.

A resident of Chatham passed away peacefully at Tilbury Manor on Saturday October 19, 2019 at the age of 89 years. Son of the late William and Myrtle (Leggett) Hughes.  

Beloved husband of 55 years to the late Kathleen A. (Paling). Loving father of Robert & Sheila (Summerfield) Hughes, Thomas Hughes (Cheryl Rodgers), Judy and Cameron Zink and Kathleen and Ted Paterak. Dear Grandfather of Rebecca Pye (Jason), Robert Hughes (Terri-Lyn), Jonathan Hughes (Angela), Casey Boromello (Matt), Aaron and Rachael Zink and Jack Miles. Great grandfather to Seazen, Sabastian, Kailey, Alex and Audrey. Brother of the late Fredrick and William Hughes and Evelyn Calvert. Survived by many nieces and nephews on the Hughes and Paling sides, sisters in law Elinor (Hughes).

Bob lived his entire life in Chatham and only answered to Robert when he knew he was in trouble with Kathleen.  He retired from the A&P Grocery chain after 42 years of service.  Quit smoking at the age of 38 and used money saved to travel and camp with family.  Said he would have never made it past his 60’s if he hadn’t quit.  Enjoyed walking as a hobby, many people would have seen him walking all over town.  Over 19 years accumulated 30,000 kms.   Pestered Kay in the off hours.  Enjoyed coffee with the gang at McD’s for several years.  Spent his last years at Tilbury Manor- special thanks to the staff and management. Cremation has taken place.

Memorial Visitation will take place at the Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home Ltd., 156 William St. S. Chatham (519-352-5120) on Monday October 28, 2019 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm.

A Service will take place in the Chapel of the Funeral Home on Tuesday October 29, 2019 at 11 am with Rev. Susan Jolley officiating.

Interment of ashes later in Dresden Cemetery.
