Obituary of John Newkirk

It is with great sorrow after a short illness, the passing of John Alfred Newkirk on Monday, August 14, 2017.  Cherished husband of 40 years to Helena (Filiszewski) Newkirk.  Loving father of James Garnet (Sarah) Newkirk and grandfather of Lynnea and Logan. 

Predeceased by his son Sean Newkirk and his parents Mayor Garnet and Muriel Newkirk. 

He will be sadly missed by his brothers and sisters;  Dr. Ross and Rosemary Newkirk of Kitchener, Sylvia and Keith Marshall of Burlington, Dr. Marianna Newkirk of Montreal, Jim (deceased) of B.C., Elizabeth and Dr. George Goor of Australia, Lillian and Brian Cook of Kingston, and his sister-in-law Wanda and François Roesch of Hamilton and many nieces and nephews all over the world. 

John was an avid sailor, sailing for over 50 years.   He was Commador of the Erieau Yaught Club and business owner for over 30 years.  He will be dearly missed by many friends. 

A celebration of John’s life will be held on Monday, August 21, 2017 at St. Ursula’s Church (205 Tweedsmuir Ave. W.) with visitation from 11 AM until the time of Memorial Mass at 1 PM.
