Obituary of Fernando Santos Lopes

Fernando Santos Lopes passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in his 86^th year at the Chatham Kent Health Alliance on December 30^th 2022.   Beloved husband of 57 years of Arminda (Martins) Lopes.  Born in Varges Portugal on April 21^st 1936, son of the late Maria (Barreira) and Joao Lopes. 

Loving father of George (Angela) Lopes and Linda (Richard) Balasin.  Dear brother of Albino (Adelaida) Lopes, Maria (Hernan) Machado and Fernanda Lopes.  He will also be missed by his sister-in-law Maria Lopes and several nieces and nephews. 

Fernando was predeceased by his brothers Antonio and Manuel. 

Fernando enjoyed hunting, Fado music and playing cards at the Portuguese Social Club where he would often watch his favourite football team Benfica FC.  His lifelong passion for gardening was evident in the abundance of crops he harvested annually and shared with many.  His generosity, kind spirit and infectious laugh will be sorely missed. 

Friends and relatives may visit at Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home, 156 William St. S. Chatham (519-352-5120) on Sunday January 8, 2023 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. 

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday January 9, 2023 at 10 AM at St Ursula’s Church. 

Burial will be at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
