My Grandmother May,
Your house was where we had Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving dinners. I would say it was warm, but if anyone knew the temperature at your house they would know it was always warm in the kitchen - where we would patiently wait for your five-star meals as we chatted about everything.
When I was cold, you always gave us a sweater and a pair of slippers to stay warm. I liked seeing what cute sweater you would lend me to keep warm. Without a doubt, there were always animals or flowers on the sweaters that you would let us wear.
You loved your gardens. Walking into your backyard from the side of the house, it always smelt of beautiful flowers. We would eat out of the gardens when we picked raspberries or cherries. You never minded. You always watched us with a smile.
I would play cutouts in the foyer with paper houses covering the entire floor. Grandma, you would not make a fuss when it was time for dinner and let me leave the paper houses where they were so I could pick up and play where I left off after we ate.
I loved how we ate and chatted. We would enjoy dinner, clean up, chat and then make the table again for dessert to do it all over again. We did this from as small as I can remember to doing the same traditions into me growing up as an adult.
When we would say goodbye at the end of a visit, you would always make your way to the living room where the bay window was to wave farewell. We would honk and wave until we could no longer see each other in view.
I take comfort in driving by your old house on McNaughton Ave. Even though the new owners have taken out the gardens, the big bay window remains where I still want to honk as I drive by and look to remember you waving in the window.
There are so many memories and words I want to keep sharing, but I don't think I can capture them in just one post.
I love you, grandma. You meant so much to me. I hope you felt how much you meant to me. You will forever be in my heart and memories.
There is so much to remember. I wish I could tell you for one last time that I love you and will see you again. Your memory will remain with me.
Lots of love,
Samantha
& Derek
(He never got used to how we would kiss hello and goodbye, but you sure made him blush)
XO

I remember with great fondness all the wonderful times that I spent with Aunt May, Uncle Joe, Teresa, Debbie, Nancy and Joe at the farm. The wonder and loving welcome Aunt May gave me, the wonderful meals and the great trips to the beach when we loaded up the cars and the picnic lunch and headed to Ipperwash and Grand Bend. Thank you Aunt May for the great memories. All my love, Catherine Barker-Hoyes.

Mom was always saving things she found inspirational. These two items were ones that she particularly liked. Mom like her mother was very creative. She constantly created beautiful crafts and sewing projects. I remember when we took Japanese punch embroidery classes(neither of us had finished them) but it was fun to go together. When we lived on the farm, I loved going for walks down our long lane, singing Blowing in the Wind and hunting for 4 leaf.clovers. To this day I always look down to see if I can find one. Mom taught me so much. Her love of cooking and gardening were infectious. Every time I work in the gardens she comes to mind. When she lived with us we all got involved with the flower and veggie gardens. It was wonderful. Now with each jar of beets I can or jar of strawberry jam I make Mom will be there in my thoughts. She will most definitely be in heaven making her culinary and gardening mark now. I will miss you Mom, even though I know you will always be there with every crescent roll.,molasses cookie or cabbage roll I make. You were the best Mother a daughter could be blessed with. Enjoy your new roll as angel, you will be always loved and missed.

Mom(and Dad) loved to dance. When Ross and I travelled with them they took every opportunity to go dancing. In New Orleans, at Octoberfest celebrations in Fort Myers Florida. She could really dance and it was heartwarming to see them together. I wonder if Mom held on so she could pass on Dad's birthday so he and she could dance the night away upon their reunion.

Grandma,
I'll always remember when we came to visit, you always made me feel so loved by the way you would embrace me in your arms. You always made sure that there were fresh delicious homemade treats for us to enjoy, & I can not wait to bake those same things for Meah.
From teaching me to garden & sitting out on the patio enjoying the summer sun to doing your favorite puzzles (Marc & I love puzzles too, but not as much as you & Grandpa did ), I'll hold our memories dear to my heart. I'll be sure to share all of your photos & memories with your great-granddaughter, Meah so she will always know how special her Great grandmother was. Meah will forever cherish the Velveteen Rabbit book you got for her, & every time we read it we will think of you.
Now, with your beautiful smile, embrace Grandpa with one of your famous hugs & continue your love story that created this beautiful family that will all miss you so very much.
We love you, Grandma.
Love, Deborah, Marc & Meah

Any time I’d get sad and talk to grandma she would always say with a smile, some needs to go shopping!

I will miss you teaching me how to speak Czech on our windy day walks with Juliet over the phone. I will miss you and those amazing scallops potatoes and lemon squares. But most of all I will miss you and your kind sense/ individual of humour. I love you very much.
Now you can be with tiki and tiki2 and grandpa will be standing there with a bouquet of your favourite flowers to hold your hand and tiki and tiki2 following you both meowing how much they missed you.
I love you grandma may.

One of my truly fondest memories of May was her true love of cooking everything with garlic especially the pork roasts which were a favorite whenever we visited. May loved to travel with us on our many adventures and these included trips to Florida, Texas and many other southern states as well as the Maritime Provinces where I was born. May also loved to keep our cat Buster whenever we were out of town on vacation or on business.
In her later years when she came to stay with us , she was a welcome addition to our family. She loved the various holiday dinners we hosted as it was a time for her to see her children and grand children.
Most of all, May was always willing to help out no matter what and that is a quality I will always remember about her plus that look that she would always give me whenever I thought she wasn't paying attention to our conversation.
Rest in peace, you will never be forgotten.

Mom… your death has made me realize that every single second we spent together, I wasted an opportunity to tell you how much I loved you.
But I know now that you are dancing with the angels and are loved and comforted by everyone around you.
Until we meet again, I love you Mom
Your daughter Deb XOXOXO
