Obituary of Donald Lamont McGregor
It is with broken hearts that the family of Donald Lamont McGregor announce his passing on Saturday June 3, 2023 in his 89th year. He was the loving husband and best friend of Barbara (Weaver) for 64 years.
Cherished father of Michelle (late Les) Hoffman and Melody (late Rob) Bossence. He loved and was so proud of his grandsons Sam Hoffman, Keith (Nikki) Hoffman and Max (Shaide) Bossence. His great grandson Owen blessed his life for the past two years. Don was the dear brother of Diane (late Al) Hyrnkiew, Donna (Doug) Tuck and the late Lorraine Duerksen. Dear brother-in-law of Vince (Yvonne) Weaver, the late Judy Weaver and the late Ron Weaver. Caring uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Don was born in Winnipeg to the late Charles and Anne McGregor, but lived most of his life in Chatham after coming here to play hockey. He was a proud member of the 1959-60 Allan Cup winning Chatham Senior Maroons. Don worked for the Ontario Ministry of Transportation for 30 years. After he retired, he continued his volunteer work with Outreach for Hunger working in the warehouse nearly every morning for many years. Don and Barb enjoyed travelling to many countries and spending a few weeks in the Florida sunshine. He also enjoyed live theatre, visits to the casino and many different sports on TV. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Church.
Don’s family would like to express their gratitude to the hospital staff at Windsor Regional Hospital (Ouellette Campus) and CKHA-Floor 4A for their kind and compassionate care.
As per Don’s wishes, cremation has taken place and his family will be remembering him privately.
Donations to Chatham Outreach for Hunger or Charity of One’s Choice would be appreciated.
