Reginald (Reg) James Jr. passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Maple City Retirement Home in his 89th year, surrounded by his son, daughter, and daughter-in-law.
Beloved husband of the late Rosalie (Rose) Pepper (2019).
Loving father of Dale (Kim) and Sharon Pepper-May (Doug). Dear grandfather of Emily Pepper, Olivia Pepper, Ian Pepper, Abigail Pepper, Melissa Dys (May), Eric May, and Zachary May. Dear great-grandfather of Khaleesie Pepper and Evelyn Dys.
Son of the late Reginald Pepper Sr. and Ina Gilhula, Reg was born in Chatham on May 8, 1935. In addition to his parents, Reg is predeceased by his three brothers and two of his sisters: Odis, Madeline, Shirley, Harold, and Kenneth.
He is survived by his sister, Wanda. Reg lived all his life in Chatham. In 1958 he married the love of his life, Rose.
Reg was employed by Union Gas until his retirement almost 30 years ago. Reg was a member of the Chatham Police Boys Band at an early age and spent the majority of his adult life playing euphonium and trumpet for the Chatham Kiltie Concert Band and Chatham Concert Band.
For several years Reg could be found behind a mask and chest protector, umpiring minor league baseball in Chatham. He spent many years running the timeclock for both house league minor hockey and the Chatham Maroons Jr. B team. Reg spent countless hours at the Chatham Bowl-O-Drome coaching in the YBC leagues.
Friends and relatives may visit at Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home, 156 William St. S. Chatham (519-352-5120) on Thursday, August 31 2023 from 7 – 9 pm where Vigil Prayers will be offered at 7pm.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 1 2023 at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph's Church.
Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
