Obituary of Sr. Loretta Mitchell

MITCHELL, SISTER LORETTA (Loretta Ann) and formerly Sister Alice Marie entered eternal life on December 30th, 2023 in Chatham, ON.  She was born in 1932 in Dorchester, Ontario, the daughter of the late John and Alice (Fallon) Mitchell.  She entered the Ursuline Sisters of Chatham in 1951.  During her religious life she served as a teacher in Stratford, Essex, McGregor, London, Wallaceburg, Parkhill, Toronto and Bradford. She was also Dean of Residence at Brescia University College, London. 

 

Sr. Loretta moved to Villa Angela in Chatham in 2008 where she was a volunteer driver for the Sisters and helped at the reception desk. 

She is survived by sister-in-law, Betty Mitchell and Margaret Mitchell and several beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

She is predeceased by her parents and siblings, Sr. Mary James, HHM (Edith), Jack Mitchell, Ambrose Mitchell, James (Jimmie) Mitchell, Catherine (Kay) Mitchell, Br. Joseph Mitchell, CSSR, Josie Stephenson, Theresa Nolan, Frank Mitchell, Anthony (Tony) Mitchell, Mary McAvoy and Claire Feeney.

 

Relatives and friends are invited to join the Ursuline Community at a prayer service to be held on Monday, January 1, 2024 at 2 p.m. in the Kiva at St. Angela’s Meadow Retirement Lodge, 20 Merici Way, Chatham. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 2 at 10 a.m. in the Kiva at St. Angela’s Meadow Retirement Lodge. 

 

Interment will be at a later date in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
