Another shining light has gone out on the Fourth Concession but part of Winnifred remains in her beautiful flower gardens.
During the first half of our lives, we were both busy with our families and once they were grown and successful, a new chapter opened for us. We learned we were born the same year, me, the first of the year and Winnifred, on Christmas Day. This was to be a strong tie between us. We knew we were farmers through and through and liked to play cards. We soon had a group of six to play Pepper.
I enjoyed our visits on the way to these games. After a while, we would stop for Tea Time and Winnifred always made special desserts. Some of these recipes are published in Chatham-Kent cookbooks. Often, we would want the good times to continue and go out to supper together.
I have happy memories of this friendship and will especially remember Winnifred on February 17th. She died on my birthday.
Rest In Peace.
Love,
Rheta Lawton
