Pat was my wife Mary and my best man 50 years ago in London. We had attended grade school in London and were best friends for many years.Time ebbed away our contact but I thought of him every New Years.
He was an excellent hockey player who loved his drums. But above all he was a great friend.
WE would listen to CKLW radio late into the night and did a really bad imitation of the dancing moves of many of the MoTown groups of the sixties.
You made the world better place. Love you my friend.

Pat was such a charismatic guy with so much talent. Our boys crossed paths with him at Strings N Things. While our oldest was learning guitar from Tom, our youngest was learning drums from Pat. He was always ready with a smile and an interesting story. Both boys enjoyed their weekly interactions with him. Our boys also loved to point out his artwork in local businesses. Such a talented guy!

I worked with Pat at Hostess Chips in Chatham in the late seventies, early eighties. He was truly a unique man and never failed to make us all laugh in the coffee room with his good humor. Like many locals I enjoyed decades of his professional drum skills with various bands. A real loss to our community. Sincere condolences to Elaine and all of his family.

I didn't know after my first lesson with Pat, we would spend the next 10 years in that room going over things I didn't think were possible. (I'm sure Pat thought the same thing about me) .... However somehow, he did it. We would as he would say, lets break it down and he would write out how it was to be done. Didn't think it was possible for this to happen, but he got it to work. One time Pat said, time for me to do a few songs with Manpower. And sitting in the seat where Pat sat, all I can think of this can't be happening, well it did. Today I Drum for a band, and I think how Pat would do this, and one of his comments I can hear him say, keep it simple. I think I would still take lesson today if that was possible, but instead I ll take what I have and think of the great time in that little room we had .....breaking it down. Thx Pat .... the beat will go on.

Pat was my drum teacher for 5 years. Covid brought an end to the lessons-even he was a bit paranoid about teaching in that tiny cubicle. I am older than him and not his most talented student. However, he was always encouraging and positive. Practice, practice and more practice was his solution when I became frustrated. He would tell me stories about his hockey career and about playing drums at the Elmwood Casino in Windsor. He was truly an inspiration. I will miss him.

I worked with Pat at KSR, he was such a great man…it’s funny I’m finding out about this on my birthday because way back when in my partying days Pat was playing at one of the bars on my birthday and said he was going to announce it, well when he did I was in the bathroom and missed the whole thing so it became a thing between him and I that anytime he was playing and I was out he always sang Happy Birthday to (even if it wasn’t my birthday)…fly high and rest easy Pat

Pat was my drum teacher for a year right before i went to school for music. I went to study with
him looking to deepen my knowledge of jazz drumming and he was the perfect teacher for me. He
taught me so much about the history of jazz and how to appreciate it, how to approach the drums techincally
and artistically and above all how to be a great dummer and a person. Him and his dad Ken Crone showed
me the wide world of jazz playing and that has influenced me so deeply and strongly throughout my life as i continue
on my quixotic journey as a musician. Thank you Pat for all you taught me and so many others drummers and musicians.

We are so very saddened by the loss of our wonderful neighbour for many years. We will miss our chats while out cutting the grass. Last year when Pat was diagnosed he came over to share the news with us. When he left that night we gave him a hug and told him something I was told when I was diagnosed and that was to write his own story. He told me the last time we talked that he was. We will miss him! Rest in peace!

It is with great sadness that I was informed of Pat’s passing today. Since I moved to Toronto many years ago I lost connection with Pat but never forgot him. Pat was already a great musician in the early 80’s when I started playing drums in Chatham with local bands and then with the Chatham Concert band.
Pat was a great mentor. He would make a point to come see me play and give advice and also let me know of the great drummers of our time. I’m filled with sadness today to hear of his struggles with cancer. Rest in peace dear brother as I will keep our rhythm going in your honour. Ernie do Forno

I remember when Pat would get 2 of Grandmas knives and a couple of old pots, and play Wipeout with Uncle Terry on guitar, out at the farm on the 2nd line. Later on, it was a privilege to record with him on the Pulse Creek album, and a blast having him sit in with the Plank Road Hammers at Farmfest 2013. I’m sure Uncle Ken will have a spot in The Heavenly Jazz Band, just for you.

Pat held a special place in the hearts of many. I have a particular memory that sums up (to me) what a character he was. Sometimes he was funny without even trying. One day he was complaining to his mother that the butter tarts he had made did not taste as good as the ones that she made. After she asked him if he kneaded them, he responded, "I don't know if I needed them but I wanted them." This is one of the many memories that remain with me when I think of Pat and the character that he was. He is without pain and at peace. That is what comforts us.
