Obituary of Sr. Pauline Maheux
MAHEUX, SR. PAULINE (Shirley Mae Elizabeth), entered eternal life on August 29, 2024 in Chatham, Ontario. She entered the Ursuline Sisters of Chatham in 1956. During her religious life she served as a teacher in Stratford, Edmonton, Chatham, “The Pines” Ursuline College. She was also a pastoral worker in Wallaceburg.
She ministered in Peru from 1974-1979, 1983-1985 and 2008–2014 where she initiated the Women’s Circle Movement, accompanied the Lay Community of St. Angela, Centre St. Angela and Centre Hope. In between those years, she lived in Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Windsor, London, where she served in numerous ministries – pastoral work, Community Committees, re-writing the Ursuline Constitutions, initiated House of Prayer in Tilbury and the Ursuline Centre at Brescia, volunteered with various women’s groups in London and the Women’s Circle at Brescia. She also served on the Ursuline Leadership Administration from 1993 to1997 and 2017 to 2021. She was born in Edmonton, Alberta in 1938, the daughter of the late Eugene and Monique (Boivin) Maheux. She is survived by her sister-in-law Audrey Maheux of Edmonton, brother-in-law Lyle Verstraete of Calgary and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother Rene Maheux and sister Gaery Verstraete.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the Ursuline Community in a Celebration of Life to be held on Thursday, September 5th, 2024 at 2 p.m. in the Kiva at St. Angela’s Meadow Retirement Lodge, 20 Merici Way, Chatham.
The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, September 6th, at 10 a.m in the Kiva at St. Angela’s Meadow Retirement Lodge. Interment of ashes will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
