Obituary of Bertha Vickerd

Bertha Eileen Vickerd (Zimmer) has peacefully passed away on Friday August 12, 2016, with family at her side at The Village of Glendale Crossing in London at the age of 92 years. She was predeceased by her loving husband Clifford Vickerd (1981) of Woodslee, Ontario. Bertha was the last surviving member and beloved daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Zimmer of Harwich Township. She was predeceased by her sisters; Dorothy Thompson, Gladys Emery, Angela O’Rourke, Patricia Wilson, Phyllis Jenkins, Sr. Rosemary Zimmer and by brothers; Herbert, Morley, Ivan and Raymond Zimmer. She was a favored aunt and will be missed by her many nieces and nephews. Bertha lived an exemplary life of service. She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Chatham where she served faithfully in the Catholic Women’s League since 1976. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister in the parish and the hospital. She tended lovingly to her brothers and sisters, performing duties for them both spiritually and physically. She proudly served in the RCAF for five years as a Dental Lab Assistant at the RCAF Station, Goose Bay then worked in Toronto for many years, before she returned home to her roots. Friends and relatives may visit at the Funeral Home, 156 William St. S. Chatham (519-352-5120) on Monday August 15, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, where Vigil Prayers and Catholic Women’s League prayers will be offered at 3 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday August 16, 2016 at 10 am in St. Joseph’s Church. Burial will be in Old St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Donations to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation or the Chatham Women’s Centre would be appreciated.
