Obituary of Elsie Verbruggen

With great sadness we announce that Elsie Annie Verbruggen, age 81 of Chatham, passed away peacefully at Maple City Residence, Chatham, on Saturday, May 16, 2015. Born in Wallaceburg, daughter of the late Aloysius and Josephine Verbruggen. She is survived by her sisters Mary Debusschere, Dorothy (Albert) Maier and sister in law June Verbruggen all of Chatham. Also survived by her nieces and nephews, Ken (Marjorie) Debusschere, Penny (Andrew) Verbruggen, Bonnie (Bill) Verbruggen, Kim Verbruggen, Lori (Peter) Bieberstein of Switzerland, Stephen (Yamin) Maier, Suzanne (Garry) Finlayson of Scotland and 12 grand nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brother Peter Verbruggen (1976). Elsie worked in Toronto for many years and had many hobbies, including walking, reading, gardening, playing bridge and golf. She volunteered with many organizations and was involved with her church, St. Joseph’s Parish. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League. Friends and relatives may visit at the Funeral Home, 156 William St. S. Chatham (519-352-5120) on Tuesday, 2015 from 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm , where Vigil Prayers will be offered at 3:30 pm. Catholic Women’s League Prayers to follow. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 1 pm in St. Joseph’s Church. Burial will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Donations to the Spirit and Life Centre at St. Joseph’s Church would be appreciated.
