Obituary of Mary Teresa Antaya

Antaya, Sister Mary Teresa (formerly Sister Mary Anselm)entered Eternal Life on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Villa Angela in Chatham, Ontario. She was born in Prairie Siding, Ontario in 1933, the daughter of the late Charles and Marie (Murray) Antaya. She entered the Ursuline Sisters of Chatham, Ontario in 1950. During her religious life she served as teacher in Windsor, Ridgetown, Watford, Parkhill, Bradford and UrsulineCollege, Chatham. In 1962 along with three other sisters, Sister Mary Teresa opened a mission in Peru where she served as teacher and principal. From 1973 to 1981 she was a member of the Ursuline General Leadership. From 1981 to 1985 Sister was a parish worker at Immaculate Conception Church, Stratford. From 1985 to 1993 she was General Superior of the Ursuline Community. From 1994 to 1999 she worked as the Executive Secretary of the Canadian Religious Conference for Ontario. In 2000, she moved to Chatham and continued to serve on various committees within the community until 2003. She is predeceased by her sister, Sister Anne Antaya, CSJ. She is survived by her sister Eileen and Roger Duchene and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to join the Ursuline Community at a prayer service to be held on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. in the Kiva at Villa Angela, 20 Merici Way, Chatham. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the Kiva at Villa Angela, Chatham. Interment will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Donations in memory of Sister Mary Teresa may be made to “Chatham Ursuline Charities” or to the charity of your choice.
