At Riverview Gardens Nursing Home, Chatham, on Thursday, August 14, 2014, Marshall (Marcel) Camiel Dejaegher, age 90, of Chatham, beloved husband of Sheila Dejaegher (Scratcherd). Born in Handzame, West Flanders, son of the late Anna and Victor Dejaegher. He is survived by his children, Michael (Elizabeth) Dejaegher of Waterloo, Karen Irwin of Woodstock, Malcolm (Davolynn) Wratten of Dunsford, and Peter Wratten of Port Hope, 17 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Also survived by a daughter-in-law Sylvia Dejaegher, a son-in-law Bill White, sisters-in-law Patricia Priestly, Elaine Slate, and Carolyn Whiteley and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his son Danny Dejaegher, his daughter Judy White and his sisters Jeanie Dejaegher, Mary Lucier and Yvonne VanOverbeke. Marshall was a 5 year WWII Veteren, D Day Juno Beach Vet. 1st Hussars Regt. A life member of Hussars Regt. Association, a member of Essex Kent Scottish Regt. Association. K/Cdr. Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem Knight Hospitaller & Director General of Insignia Sovereign Council Member of London Commandery. Past President and Dominion Life Member of Branch 28 RCL, Holder of Meritorius Service Medal and Palm Leaf, & Queens Silver and Diamond Jubilee Medals, also one of the founding members of Br. 28 Colour Guard, Service Officer for over 25 years. He was Secretary/Treasurer of the Chatham Poppy Fund for 32 years. Past Zone Commander of Zone A 3 RCL. A Chatham District Cub Master for many years. Marshall was retired from Navistar after 22 years of work. Friends and relatives may visit at the Funeral Home, 156 William St. S. Chatham (519-352-5120) on Sunday from 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm, where Vigil Prayers will be offered at 3 pm. A Legion Service will be held at 7 pm Sunday evening. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 18, 2014 at 11 am in Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Donations to the Legion Poppy Fund would be appreciated.
