Obituary of Bernadette Reaume

Bernadette Evelyn Reaume departed to join God on Friday, December 23rd, 2016 in Chatham, Ontario at the age of 82. Beloved mother of Daniel and his wife Beata of Midland, Michigan; sister of Rosalie (Benoit) Dubuque of Pain Court; and dear aunt of Bernadette Wilson, Anna-Marie Arbour, and Joseph Dubuque, Bernadette will be sadly missed. She is predeceased by her much-loved husband Donald (1987) her brothers Joseph (1943) and Stephen (1989), and her sister Rosemarie (2004). Born to Laurentia and Stephen Benoit in Chatham on January 31st, 1934, and growing up in Pain Court, Bernadette attended the University of Ottawa where she obtained her teaching degree. Bernadette moved to LaSalle after marriage, where she continued to teach and raise her family. Bernadette had an exceedingly compassionate and caring heart and is best-remembered for her passionate dedication as a teacher who inspired a great many students in Sarnia, Pain Court, and LaSalle. Every child eagerly awaited the opportunity to have “Mme. Reaume” as their teacher, knowing they would soon create amazing artwork. With an exceptional work ethic, she was a wonderful mother and role-model who did everything to help her family and friends. Bernadette loved crafting, cooking, and gardening. She carefully tended her numerous beautiful flower and vegetable gardens into her 80s. Bernadette also dearly loved her little dogs, especially Bijou, who she took everywhere with her. Her wonderfully unique sense of humor lit up many rooms, bringing a smile to both friends and strangers alike. Friends and relatives may visit the Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home, 156 William St. S. Chatham (519-352-5120) on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm, where vigil prayers will be offered at 3 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 11 am in Immaculée Conception Church, Pain Court. Burial will follow at Sacré Coeur Cemetery in LaSalle at 1:30 pm. Many thanks to friends and family who helped Bernadette through her illness and to the the diligent staff at the Residence on the Thames and Riverview Gardens who took loving care of Bernadette. Tethered to the Earth, Bernadette left us gradually.
