‘He built our lives brick by brick’
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our dad, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle on Friday October 7, 2016 at Mississauga Hospital in his 85th year. He was a true “gentleman” and he loved life and his family to the fullest.
Born in Lomza, Poland on March 5th, 1931, son of the late Wladyslaw and Wladyslawa Tomaszewski. Beloved husband for 50 years to the late Janina (Slys). He is predeceased by brothers Henry, Alexander and sister Janina. Survived by sisters in Poland, Halina, Genia, Krystyna and their extended families.
He will be sadly missed by his children Andrew of Ottawa, Ursula (Ciro) of Brampton and Gregory (Diane) of Mississauga. He was greatly loved by his grandchildren, Kristina (Nick), Christopher (Michelle), Laura (Steve), Amanda (Kyle), Emily, Michael, Jessica and newly born great grandson, Weston. As well, numerous nieces and nephews and their extended families will miss him dearly.
John’s family had been displaced to Siberia in 1939 at the beginning of WWII, and as survivors, his family returned and settled in Bialogard, Poland. In January of 1960, John, Janina and their three young children immigrated to Canada and settled in Chatham, Ontario.
John was a stone mason, achieving Master status and applied his trade with pride and precision throughout the Chatham-Kent area until he retired in 1996. John was an active member of Our Lady of Victory Church and the Polish Canadian Club until he moved in May of this year to Wawel Villa Seniors Residence in Mississauga to be near family.
He loved his new home and the many activities; much appreciation goes to the staff for their care.
Visitation is at The Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home, 156 William St. S., Chatham, Tuesday, October 11th, 2016, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm with prayers at 8:00 pm.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Victory Church, 490 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Wednesday, October 12th at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Bogdan Molenda celebrant.
Burial to follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Chatham.
‘He was the cornerstone of our family’
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.
