Surrounded by his family, Daniel Candido De Paula Martins, 78, of Chatham, Ontario, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at the Chatham-Kent Hospice. Born in Mosteirô, Ponte da Barca, Portugal to the late Francisco and Maria Rosa Martins. Daniel was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. He leaves to cherish his memory his beautiful wife Maria with whom he shared over 53 years of marriage and created a lifetime of memories. Daniel was extremely loving and proud of his sons Fernando (Cristina) of Toronto and Glen (Denise) of London as well as a loving Vȏvȏ to his grandchildren André, David, Tienna, Bella and Sofia. He is survived by his sisters Elisa, Candida, Adélia (Carlos), Celeste (Rui) and Jacinta (Manuel) and brothers Jaime and Mario (Guida). He is also survived by his brother-in-law Manuel (Rosa), sister-in-law Ana (Jose) and parents-in-law José and Florinda Ascenção. He will forever be missed by so many special nieces, nephews, family and friends. Daniel is predeceased by his brothers Francisco and Gabriel and sisters Alice and Francelina. Daniel, you will be forever remembered and we will always carry your memory in our hearts. Friends and family may visit at Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home, 156 William St. S., Chatham (519-352-5120) on May 25, 2016 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm, where Vigil Prayers will be offered at 3 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on May 26, 2016 at 11:30 am in St. Agnes Church, 52 Croydon St., Chatham. Burial will follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery, 55 Maple Leaf Dr., Chatham. Memorial contributions in Daniel’s name may be made to the Chatham-Kent Hospice or to the London Health Sciences Centre (London Regional Cancer Program). The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Chatham-Kent Hospice, all the nurses, staff and volunteers especially Nurse Susan Arnold for their support in his final days.
