Obituary of Charles Badura

Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charlie on Tuesday June 20, 2017 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, with his loving wife Mary at his side.

Born 89 years ago in Vnorovy, Czechoslovakia on November 1, 1927, Charlie  was the eldest son of Florian and Frances Badura.  At the age of six, Charlie, his mother and his brother John emigrated to Canada, sailing across the Atlantic waters and landed in Halifax on April 1, 1933. Shortly thereafter, they traveled across many Canadian provinces in hopes of joining Florian and making Taber Alberta their permanent home as new proud Canadians.  While visiting Chatham during the fall of 1955, Charlie met his sweetheart Mary Mojzis, and on November 24, 1956 they were married and they started their new life together on the farm in Harwich Township, Chatham-Kent.  With Mary close at his side, along with their seven children and throughout both plentiful and challenging growing seasons , dad repeatedly worked the land with great determination and was always proud to say, he was a Canadian farmer.  Dad's love for the land kept him busy for many decades, however he remained dedicated to his strong belief in God, celebrated his Czech heritage with pride and made his entire family a priority.

Charlie will be lovingly remembered as a gentle and compassionate father by his children:  Paul and Susan Badura, Angela and John Buxton, Gerald and Bella Badura, Rosalie and Patrick Mancell, Michael Badura, Jeremy and Magda Badura and Janet and Derek Wilken.  "Grandpa Charlie" cherished grandfather and great-grandfather of Evan and Jennifer Badura, John (Michelle) Buxton Jr and Krys (Shaun)  Buxton, Chamille and Chameron Badura, Cameron Mancell, Chanel and Chad Barry, Emma and Benjamin Badura and Lilah, Max and Quinn Badura.  Charlie was a kind-hearted and hard working brother to eleven younger brothers and sisters and will be sadly missed by his surviving siblings in Alberta: Mary Kusalik, Frank Badura, Joe Badura, Annie Cudrak, Lydia Brecka, Mildred Braat, Rose Badura and Helen Zadnik and all of their families.

Predeceased by his brother John Badura and sisters Beth Braat and Frances Pavka, his father-in-law Josef Mojzis, mother-in-law Marie Mojzis and infant grandson Drew T. Badura (1986).  Charlie will be missed by sister-in-law Julie Kozlof (Blenheim) and a vast number of nieces and nephews residing in Ontario, USA and Alberta.

The Badura family will receive family and friends on Friday June 23, 2017  at the funeral home, 156 William Street S. Chatham, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 - 9pm.  Parish prayers will be offered at 3 pm.  A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday June 24, 2017 at St Ursula’s Catholic Church, 205 Tweedsmuir Ave West, Chatham at 10:30 am with Fr. Matt Kucharski  as celebrant.

Interment to follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
