Obituary of Mary Theresa Kuchta

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary Theresa Kuchta (nee Grega), age 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Riverview Gardens, Chatham, Ontario with her children by her side on July 21, 2018 after a long struggle with dementia.

She was born in Vitaz, Slovakia, and came to Canada at the age of 7. She was a long-time resident of Chatham and truly loved this land and this country. She was a very proud Canadian having traveled to every Province and territory.

She is predeceased by her husband Alex Kuchta, her son-in-law Mathew Juba (Betty) and two infant daughters, Mary Margaret and Anne.  She is survived by son, Alexander Kuchta (Marie Starr) of Mississauga, daughter Betty Kuchta (Stephen Fuerth) of Chatham, five grandchildren - Sandra Kuchta (Sean Docemo) of Ottawa, James Kuchta of Toronto, Angela Juba (Steven Slazyk)of Vancouver, John Juba (Erica) of Toronto, and Michael Juba of London,  three great-grandchildren - Jack Slayzk, Samantha and Julia Docemo, a sister Betty Baranek of Sarnia, and several nieces and nephews.

She was a vibrant member of the community - she was an avid walker, served as the receptionist at Bingham Optical Company for many years, she was a member of St. Joseph's Choir for over 40 years and a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Women's League for over 50 years.  She will be remembered for her kind demeanour, her fun-loving nature and her absolute devotion to her husband, children and grandchildren.

Many thanks to the individuals who cared for Mary during her long illness - the competent and caring staff at Riverview Gardens, to M.E. for her kind direction and care in the early days and especially to HJ  for her diligent care, unwavering compassion and trusted companionship.

To honour Mary's love of walking, her love of Canada, and her love for the spirit of community,  donations to Trans Canada Trail or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
