Obituary of Joseph Wilfred Benoit
On Thursday August 30, 2018 at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Joseph W. Benoit passed away peacefully at age 80. Beloved husband of Gloria (Roy) Benoit. Born in Grande Pointe in 1938, son of the late Amanda (Pinsonneault) and Norman Benoit.
Loving father of Denise (Bill) Irvine, Joseph (Jenne) Benoit and Jacqueline (Darren) Bruhlman. Loving Pépère of Simon (Vicki), Sophie (Devin), Julie, Andrea (Alex), Joël, Elizabeth, Ben, Breanna, Blake, and Francesca and Grand-Pépère of Lucie, Caleb and Patrick. Dear brother of Clara Cartier, Angeline Rivard and Anna (Don) Benoit. Also survived by sisters-in-law Gina Gillet and Jeannette Benoit and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother Lionel Benoit, sister Marie Jeanne Bechard and brothers-in-law; Wilfred Rivard, Jacob Cartier and Aurèle Bechard.
Joe was a 47-year veteran and former Fire Chief of the Dover Township Fire Department and Station Chief of Chatham-Kent Fire Station 4 and lived a life of service above self. His many accomplishments included being the first Postmaster of Grande Pointe helping to establish the N0P 1S0 postal code, 4th Degree Knight of Columbus with the Father James Assembly, Member of St. Ursula’s Knights of Columbus, longtime area barber, Navistar retiree, Kent County Roman Catholic Separate School Board Trustee, dedicated blood donor and volunteer around the community including Riverview Gardens and Thamesview Lodge, Member and Past President of The St-Philippe Ushers’ Club and Usher at St. Ursula’s Church, but he took his greatest pride in his family.
Friends and family may visit the Funeral Home, 156 William St. S. Chatham (519-352-5120) on Sunday, September 2, 2018 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM, where Vigil Prayers will be offered at 3 PM.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Ursula’s Church on Monday, September 3, 2018 at 10:30 AM.
Burial will be in St-Philippe Cemetery, Grande Pointe.
