Obituary of Sister Rachel Durand

DURAND, SISTER MARY RACHEL (Anne) entered Eternal Life on the Feast of All Saints, November 1, 2018 at Villa Angela in Chatham, Ontario. 

Sister was born in Stratford, Ontario in 1918, the daughter of the late Remi and Rachel (Laporte) Durand.   She entered the Ursuline Sisters of Chatham in 1938.  During those years she served the Ursuline Community as a teacher and principal in Windsor, Dublin, Tilbury, Parkhill, Wallaceburg, and Chatham.

  Following her retirement from teaching, she served as Treasurer at “The Pines”, Chatham.  Her final years were spent at Villa Angela. 

She is survived by sister-in-law, Gloria Durand (Joseph) of Tillsonburg and several nieces and nephews.  

Predeceased by brothers, Rev. Fr. Remi Durand, Rev. Fr. Anthony Durand, Giles, Charles, John and Joseph and sisters, Leanore Monpetit, Loretta Hartlieb, Vidella Murphy, Verona Hourigan, and Mary Hurley. 

Relatives and friends are invited to join the Ursuline Community at a prayer service to be held on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 3:30 p.m. in the Kiva at Villa Angela, 20 Merici Way, Chatham.  

The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Kiva at Villa Angela, Chatham.

 Interment will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
