Obituary of Carmel Veronique Laprise
Carmel Laprise (née Mailloux), passed away peacefully at Riverview Gardens Nursing Home, Chatham, Ontario on August 5, 2019. Carmel was the beloved wife of 61 years to the late Wilfrid Laprise (2007). Born in Pointe-aux-Roches in 1926, daughter of the late Rose Marie (Guilbeault) and Romeo Mailloux.
She will be sadly missed by her loving children, Jacqueline Nebel (Dr. Edward Nebel) of St. Clair, Michigan, Claudette Rochon (Marc) of Chatham, Michel Laprise (Gisèle) of Erie Beach, Gisèle Watson (Bill) of Chatham and Janice Robert (Roland) of Pain Court. Dear sister to Sylvin Mailloux (Anna Mae).
Predeceased by sisters-in-law Jeanne Laprise (the late John Haslip), Anna Trahan (the late Alex Trahan), Soeur Marie and Soeur Cécile and Caroline Laprise. Also predeceased by brother in-law Treflé Laprise.
Cherished grandmother to David Myers (Brooke), Chantal Van Haecke (Aaron), Marguerite Abbey (Rob), Yvon Laprise, Lorraine Hunter (Shannon), Matthew Watson (Alyssa), Jonathan Watson, Christopher Robert (Chelsea) and Danielle Robert, and great-grandsons Cole and Jacob, and great-granddaughters Julia, Cora, Quinn and Aubrey. Also remembered by 4 step-grandchildren, 7 step great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Carmel was a member of Immaculée Conception Church in Pain Court and Le Club de l'Amitié. Carmel was a wonderful mother and homemaker who loved fashion and flowers. She also had a special fondness for music, having spent many years with the local chapter of the Sweet Adelines and also enjoyed attending local musical theatre productions.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Sutherland, Dr. Parry, Dr. Dixon as well as the staff of Chatham Retirement Resort and Riverview Gardens for their care and compassion. Family to receive family and friends on Friday, August 9, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculée Conception Catholic Church, 24156 Winter Line, Pain Court with a Memorial Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father Eugene Roy celebrant.
Cremation has taken place with a private family interment to be held at Immaculée Conception Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation or Immaculée Conception Church (Project Our Church) would be greatly appreciated by the family.
