Obituary of Marguerite Roy
A long-time resident of Pain Court, Marguerite “Margo” Roy, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Monday, December 2nd, just two days short of her 98th birthday.
Born in Moonbeam, Ontario, she was educated in Montréal and Timmins, and later attended “École Normale d’Ottawa “ (Teachers’ College). There she made friends with many colleagues from Southwestern Ontario.
After teaching a few years in Kapuskasing, these same friends informed her of an open teaching position in Pain Court. She left Kapuskasing and embarked on a new adventure with her best friend Gisèle. She arrived during a typical hot and humid August, much different from the Kapuskasing summers she had always known.
It was through teaching and her social network that she met Napoléon Roy, a widower, who soon became her husband. It was not a usual start to building a family, since Napoléon had four young children. Over the following years, she led a full and often hectic life. Not only was her family growing, so was Napoléon’s thriving agri-business. For Margo, this required hosting numerous events and guests, extensive travelling, all the while keeping an organized household, which was for her a source of great Pride. Although requests would often be impromptu, she showed grace under pressure and always offered a welcoming table.
She found joy in her children and grandchildren, spending time at the Rondeau cottage and later, winters in Arizona. She was a wonderful cook. Her specialties included daily homemade soups, and memorable cheese, carrot and coffee cakes.
She loved to be surrounded by books. Well into her 98th year, she remained current in world politics, news and current affairs, always having a personal perspective to offer.
Beloved wife of the late Napoléon Roy (King) (2005), Margo was the sister of predeceased Pearl, Viola, Fleurette, Léon, Gilles, and living siblings Carmen and Carmel (Jeannette). She will be fondly remembered by her present in-laws Marie-Anne Caron, Vivienne Faubert, Bernard Beaudoin and Frank Vince. She was the loving mother of Denise Roy Rougeau (Dominique), Maurice Roy (Paula), Marcelle Roy, Lise Corsini (predeceased 2015), Jules Roy (Valérie), and stepmother of Paul Roy (Rose-Marie), Louise Roy, Lucille Roy and Marie Stevens (Harry). She will be deeply missed by her children, her 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren as well as by numerous nieces and nephews who always found an open home to greet them.
Thanks to the loving care of her children, especially Marcelle and Lucille, a neighbour and friend Lorraine Gravel, Bayshore Home Health nurse Christina Faubert, Lisa Babcock, nurse practitioner with LHIN, Margo was able to remain in the comfort of her own home until the end.
Family and friends are invited to visit at Immaculée Conception Church in Pain Court on Monday December 9th from 9 to 10 am.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the church at 10 am. Burial will follow in the Pain Court parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to the Children’s Treatment Centre and Project Our Church, Immaculée Conception.
