Obituary of Irene Stroobandt

Peacefully surrounded by family at Meadow Park Nursing Home, Chatham, on Thursday January 23, 2020, Irene Clara Stroobandt, age 96, of Chatham, beloved wife of the late Gilbert Stroobandt (1993). Born in East Flanders, Belgium in 1923, daughter of the late Bertha (Wytinck) and Maurice Blanckaert. Irene worked for Capri Furniture and was a member of St. Ursula’s Church. Loving mother of Linda Stroobandt, Andrea (Mike) McDonald and Larry Stroobandt. Cherished grandmother of Christine Barton (Shawn Mardling), Tara McDonald (Robert Lee) and Steven McDonald and by 6 great grandchildren Sierra, Aulden, Alexus, Andrew, Isaiah, Ashton and by one great great grandchild Taylior-Mae. Also sadly missed by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by an infant sister Martha, 2 sisters Simone Rabideau, Brenda Matteis and by 2 brothers Andrew Blanckaert and Leon VanNeck. Friends and relatives may visit at Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home, 156 William St. S. Chatham (519-352-5120) on Sunday January 26, 2020 from 2-4 pm, where Vigil Prayers will be offered at 3pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday January 27, 2020 at 11am in St. Ursula’s Church. Cremation will follow. Donations to Multiple Sclerosis would be appreciated. Heartfelt thanks to all the dedicated staff members of Meadowpark Nursing Home. We will always remember the excellent care given to our mother and the empathy given to us in Mom’s final days.
