Obituary of Omer Rosaire Benoit

Peacefully, at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Thursday, March 19, 2020, Omer Benoit, age 85, of Chatham and formerly of Mitchell’s Bay, beloved husband of 63 years of Rita (Lauzon) Benoit. Born in Dover Township in 1934, son of the late Beulah (Griffore) and Wilfred Benoit. Loving father of his 4 children Linda (Michael) Wicks, Larry (Julie) Benoit, Donna Benoit (Dave Bowyer) and Carol (Mark) Peltier and predeceased by daughter-in-law Marlene Juttens-Benoit. Dearest grandfather of Sara (Steven) Decandido, Joshua (Megan) Benoit, Jason (Crystal) Benoit, Katie Blair (Paul Dias), Nicole Blair (Tom Sylvain), Paul (Ashley) Pavliscak, Melissa Pavliscak (Richard Strain), Emily Peltier and Ryan Peltier. Dear great grandfather of Noah, Benjamin, Evan, Eli, Payton, Austin, Matthew, Ayden, Lucas, Adrianna and Tatum. He will be sadly missed by his sisters and brothers Donald (Anna) Benoit, Doreen (late Donald) Alexander, Bernice (late Edward) Fiala, Diane (late Robert) Myers, Leo (Adrienne) Benoit, Annette (Pete) VanDeHogan, Jeannette (late Frank) Fiala, Roland (Connie) Benoit and Lucille (Jean) Laprise and predeceased by sister-in-law Florence Benoit. Also rememberd by his brother-in-law Clifford Lauzon. He will be fondly remembered by Paula Campbell (Benoit), Erwin Pavliscak and many nieces and nephews. Omer worked at Union Gas from May 1960 until June 30, 1999, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, camping and loved the outdoors. Special thanks to Ernie and Chris Marchand, Francine and Philippe Bellefleur, Marnie, Tom and Beth, Wayne and Lori Clark, Harold and Lyn Reissner, Wes and Marian Colby, Roy and Lisa Alward and the CKHA Progressive Care and Medicine Floor Staff. As per Omer’s wishes cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Donations to Rotary Club of Chatham would be appreciated.
