Obituary of Manuel Cavacas

Manuel Cavacas Peacefully with his daughter at his side at Riverview Gardens Nursing Home, Chatham, on Monday April 6, 2020, Manuel do Nascimento Cavacas, age 87, of Chatham, beloved husband of the late Palmira (Mano) Cavacas (2004). Born in Urros, Portugal in 1932, son of the late Maria (Poinho) and João Cavacas. Loving father of Lenora Cavacas (Artur Miranda) and Glen Cavacas and sadly missed by a grandson, Kyle Cavacas. Dear brother of Benvinda (Antonio) Dinis and Julio (Lurdes) Cavacas, and special brother-in-law to Manuel and Natalia Rolo, he will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers Emilio, Mario and Ilídio Cavacas. Manuel was among the first immigrants from his village in Portugal to Canada, one of the founding members of the Portuguese-Canadian Social Club of Chatham, and sponsor to other members of his family. Special thank you to the staff at Riverview Gardens Nursing Home for their love, care, and support throughout his residency. Due to the current circumstances, there will be no public funeral home visitation or service, private family only. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. The Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home, 156 William St. S. Chatham (519-352-5120) is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. In lieu of visitation, a donation can be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
