Peacefully, at Copper Terrace Long Term Care Facility, Chatham, on Tuesday February 16, 2021, Gerarda Sullo (nee Meriano), age 88, of Chatham, beloved wife of the late Nicola Sullo (1993). Born in Castelvetere-Sul-Calore, Italy, in 1932, daughter of the late Celeste (Follo) and Ernesto Meriano.
Loving mother of Esterina (Antonio) Cataldo. |Loving step mother to Lidia (Enio) Sullo and Jerry (Rosa) Sullo. Sadly missed by grandchildren Christian and Luca, Jennifer (Tom), Adam (Lianne), Stephanie (James) and Nicole (Jeff) and by 9 great grandchildren. Dear sister of Adolfo (Maria) Meriano and Attilio (Vincenza) Meriano of Chatham. Sister-in-law of Rosina Prizio (Italy) and Maria Matteis (Italy).
Predeceased by her siblings: Pasquale, Silvio (Pasqualina), Maria Antonia, Amalia Corso (Generoso), Michelina (Antonio), Albino (Giuseppina), Benito and Carmela (Giovanni). Missed by many nieces and nephews in Chatham and Italy.
Mom was lovingly known as “Geraldina”. She came to Canada in 1967 with her youngest brother Attilio. She always said her plan was to work for a few years and then go back to Italy. Fate brought a new plan. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, zia and friend who worked hard and was a joy to be with. Her jokes brought laughter to all that loved her.
She enjoyed a good game of bingo and was fierce at playing cards especially scopa and briscola with her brother Adolfo. She took multiple trips to the Dresden slots with her sister Amalia, which were the highlight of her Sunday afternoons. The love she had for dance and especially the tarantella was something that was inherited from her father.
We are sure she is dancing with our family in heaven now.
