Obituary of Roy Martin Downey

Peacefully surrounded by his family at home on Thursday April 22, 2021, Roy Martin Downey, age 82, of Kent Bridge, beloved husband of Shirley (Vanroboys) Downey.

Born in Chatham in 1938, son of the late Myrtle (Zimmer) and Martin Downey.

 Loving father of Mitchell and his wife Karen and their daughters Madison and Meghan.  He is also survived by sister-in-law Mary Louise Vanroboys. 

Predeceased by his mother and father-in-law Rene and Margaret Vanroboys, sister-in-law Julianna (Marcel) Casier, brothers-in-law Harry (Mary) Vanroboys, Oscar Vanroboys and Norman (Helen) Vanroboys. 

Roy has been farming and trucking since 1964 in Harwich Township.  During this time, private family visitation will take place.

The family will celebrate Roy’s life privately in Blessed Sacrament Church. The Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home, 156 William St. S. Chatham (519-352-5120) is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Cremation will follow the mass.

In lieu of flowers donations to Chatham-Kent Hospice, P.A.W.R., the Canadian Cancer Society or Charity of One’s Choice would be appreciated by the family.
