Obituary of Alex Weaver
Peacefully surrounded by family at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Chatham Campus, on Sunday October 31, 2021, Alexander “Alex” Thomas Weaver, age 94, of Chatham and formerly Nepean, passed away. Born in Bracebridge, Ontario in 1927, son of the late Margaret (Coldwell) and Thomas Weaver, and beloved husband of Constance “Connie” (Lieb) Weaver. Loving father of John and his wife Rebecca (Windsor) of Nepean and Fr. Robert Weaver of Chatham. Cherished Opa to Courtney, Ashley and Serena. Predeceased by a brother Allan Weaver.
Alex’s early years were spent in the Huntsville, Ontario region where he went to school and first developed an appreciation for the great outdoors. In the late 1940s, he moved with his family to the Okanagan valley in British Columbia, where his love for the outdoors grew. Living in Penticton, he learned to become an auto body repair technician, working at Grove Motors, where his skilled and steady hands were known for their craftsmanship and the quality of his work, a trade he practiced for almost 30 years. It was also in Penticton that he met the true love of his life, Connie, and they were married in 1960. A loving husband, father, Opa and a good friend to many, he was known for his humility, readiness to help others, and a fabulous sense of humour. He had a voracious knowledge of the history and geography of British Columbia, and spent many years, with family and friends, exploring western Canada, following his pursuits of hunting, fishing and gold panning. Gardening was also a favoured pastime of Alex, as was the cultivation of a strong faith as an Anglican, and later Roman Catholic.
