Dear Dominic, Vanna, Rosa, Robert, and Laura,
After hearing your voices, I wanted to also extend my more permanent, very deepest condolences to you here, for the loss of your beloved wife and mother...
She was such a core person throughout my childhood...and into my adulthood, as well. As I shared, no matter what age I was, little girl or grown, whenever I saw her, she always had a big, kind smile on her face, and I felt cared about. I always so enjoyed connecting with her and chatting. We joked about how funny it was that, although she spoke to me in Italian and I spoke to her in English, it was the perfect match, it worked -- no communication was ever lost.
Often, when I visited in the summertime, I would go visit the women's card party that they started after they were empty nesters -- Giovanna, my mum, my Aunt Mary, my Aunt Leona, Commare Genesia, Maria Magliaro, and Graziella Magliaro. It was such fun to see them all together -- these important women of my growing up years...and, when I arrived, to go around the table, giving a hug and a kiss to each one of them.
I relished sitting with them, eating the best of good food (of course) with them, watching them play, and listening to them talk. There was something magical about those times. These are among my favourite memories and I consider myself fortunate to have been in the presence of such incredible women -- Giovanna, one such shining star of a soul.
She is a sweet part of the fibers of my memories, and will always be in my heart...
