Obituary of Antonio "Tony" Matteis

Surrounded by the love of his four sons- David, Paul, Mark, Steven, and Godson Jarrod at Riverview Gardens Nursing Home on Thursday, October 17, 2019, Anthony “Tony” Lorenzo Matteis, age 84 passed away joining his beloved wife Brenda (VanNeck) Matteis (2017) in heaven. 

Tony and Brenda were truly in love and happily married for over 56 years.  They were both eloquent ballroom dancers and professional bocce ball players here in Chatham and at their home in St. Petersburg, Florida. Tony had a love for Frank Sinatra, his own homemade wine,  sports cars, and of course the use of the “F” word. LOL!  Tony was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Ursula’s Council 9511.  After his arrival in Canada he worked 35 years for Huron Construction where he was promoted to Superintendant.  In 1985 he founded his own company Tony Matteis “The Cement Specialist”, which continues to be in business to this day.  Tony was a loving and caring husband, father, and Nonno always putting family first. 

Born in Castelvetere Sul Calore, Avellino, Italy in 1935, son of the late Antonietta (Vena) and Joseph Matteis.  Loving father of David (Nancy), Paul, Mark (Jennifer Knoll) and Steven Matteis.  Loving Nonno of Victoria, Alessandra and Nicholas. Loving brother of Diane (Eddie) Mariconda and brother-in-law of Leona Matteis. Pre-deceased by his sister Mary, (2007) brothers Geno (2014) and Mike (2016).  

Friends and relatives may visit at Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home, 156 William St. S. Chatham (519-352-5120) on Monday, October 21, 2019 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM, where Vigil Prayers will be offered at 3 PM.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 11 AM in St. Ursula's Church.  

Entombment will be in Maple Leaf Mausoleum.
